About the Passport
The leather-bound Passport entitles you to unlimited access to the weekend of highland games and secures you a guaranteed place in the clan march, a place at the clan pageant ...and, indeed a place in history.
By purchasing a Passport to this remarkable event, you will take on the role of proud participant, an experience perhaps never to be repeated, and certainly never to be forgotten. Only Gathering 2009 Passport holders will be able to take part in the Clan Parade and Pageant.
As part of the thousands of clan members you will march up the Royal Mile from Holyrood Palace to the Castle Esplanade as part of the Clan Parade. Each clan will be preceded by their chiefs and commanders with the clan banners.
Once on the Castle Esplanade you will take your seat and watch the Clan Pageant, a spectacular show on the history of the clans through the ages. This show has been especially commissioned for The Gathering 2009 and you can expect music, dancing and pipers as well as a few surprises in a fantastic visual feast for the eyes.
Don't worry if you are not associated with a Clan or Family you can still purchase a Passport and are welcome to take part in Clan Parade and Clan Pageant.
The Passport also gives you access to both days of the Highland Games Weekend Event and Scottish Festival taking part on Saturday and Sunday in Holyrood Park. Events included:-
• Deuchars World Highland Games Heavy Events Championship
• Piping
• Scottish Highland Dancing
• Live Music
• A Flavour of Scotland
• Hill Racing
• Genealogy
Please note:-
- The Gathering 2009 passports bear no relation to official passports which identify the holder as a citizen of their country.
- It must be remembered that Edinburgh is a capital city and therefore as well as the 8,500 clanspeople who will be taking part in the events on Saturday night we are also expecting large crowds to be watching the parade. The length of the parade followed by the pageant means that passport holders will not be leaving the castle esplanade until quite late on the Saturday evening, for these reasons we do not recommend that young children attend the pageant. However, the Highland Games Weekend and Scottish Festival in Holyrood Park is thoroughly recommended for families with children of all ages. Tickets for the Highland Games can be bought in advance on this website or can be bought at the gate. Click Highland Games for further information and how to purchase a ticket.
