Richard's a diamond geezer
The Gathering 2009's sponsorship manager has shown he really is a true gem, by gifting a valuable prize he had just won at a fundraising event back to charity.Richard Negus was a guest at a ball held in Edinburgh last Friday to raise funds for The Gathering 2009's chosen charity, the Anthony Nolan Trust. Like the hundreds of other guests attending the event, Richard entered a prize draw to win a single diamond which would then be set into a piece of jewellery of the winner's choosing. When the entrants were asked to check their raffle tickets, our sponsorship manager was surprised and delighted to find he was the winner of the fabulous prize worth £1500.
Richard recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary, and so could easily have presented the diamond to his wife Clare. But in the spirit of what the evening was all about, he immediately handed the gemstone back to the ball organisers to be auctioned to the highest bidder in the room. His generosity earned the charity a further £1750, in addition to the £2000 raised by selling the diamond raffle tickets.
The Gathering 2009 also donated two gold passports to the charity evening's auction which were generously bought for £480, which helped the Anthony Nolan Trust raise funds in excess of £10,000.
