The Gathering 2009 has secured public funding and would like to announce that its event partners are EventScotland, City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian (SEEL). They will also be receiving considerable marketing support from VisitScotland.

Accommodation

The Gathering 2009 has teamed up with six tour operators who will be able to assist you with your travel and accommodation needs here in Scotland, from being picked up at the airport to being taken to your clan land and of course taking part in The Gathering 2009!

A common question we are getting asked is ‘will there be enough beds?!’. Do not be concerned! Edinburgh and the surrounding area are more than capable of catering for all the visitors we are expecting during that particular weekend in July. We also have the advantage of forward planning, for example one of our travel providers Cashel Travel have over 3000 beds on hold in Edinburgh currently, ranging from budget hostel accommodation to 5* hotels.

We would recommend that you do look into your accommodation in the near future as it is based on a first come first served basis.

Airlines
We are currently in the process of talking to both westbound and eastbound airlines about being involved with The Gathering 2009. As you cannot book these flights more than a year in advance we have time to find the best deals and we will keep you posted through the website and newsletters.

Cruise
We are currently in discussions with a well-known cruise operator about the possibility of chartering our own ship from North America to Edinburgh (return by plane, or vice-versa). We would like to assess the demand for this service, so please let us know if you would be interested by emailing info@thegathering2009.com as soon as possible.

Australia and New Zealand
Lord Sempill is going to be guest of honour at Sydney Scottish Week this year and will visit the Waipu Highland games on January 1st 2008. During his visit to Australia and New Zealand he would love to meet with as many clan representatives as possible so drop us a line if you live in the Sydney or Waipu area and we can arrange a meeting.
